Stream On (Week 8)

People have been stealing music in our lifetime it seems like, the issue doesn’t seem to serious either. But in 2016, why? With Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal, there is no real reason to steal music.  With such low prices to obtain so much music without downloading, we have an enormous catalog of music which can be accessed anywhere.

In the past there has been a stereotype that white artists sell more records because white people buy music and black people don’t. To a certain extent this may have been true, we would see rap music not nearly make the record sales as pop stars and other genres. But now with all of the streaming, and the way rap music has evolved into probably the most generally accepted genre in pop culture, is any one really stealing music still?

I would like to see the amount of how many illegal downloads are being downloaded. I know personally when I got Spotify I didn’t download another song. I think has evened the playing field for artists. Also albums are not being leaked into the internet as far in advanced as they were before. So streaming services to me are playing a great deal of good to me in the music industry.
