Women be shoppin' (Week 7)

Over the weekend I volunteered to help out my internship at a bridal show. I just sat behind a both handing out magazines and having people sign up for a raffle. Obviously there was a lot of downtime. I did a lot of people watching and noticed a lot about how people interact in a few hours.

Men were supportive and carried all of their wives purses and bags of materials they were picking up as the day went along. However at the end of the day men seemed like they were worn out and sick of the whole event. They seemed to just be following their wives like cattle. Of course this is not for all men, there were some men who were just as eager help out in the wedding process with their wives.

The women on the other hand wanted to ask many questions about everything. It became very funny to as some time went by. The men would just stand there and the women would ask me questions and fill out their forms for the raffle.

Also most of the black women who came up to the table were by themselves. It fit right into the stereotype of black men not being supportive. Of course there were plenty of white women who were by themselves as well and some had very frustrated fiancés who were trying to put on a fake smile.

I do not have a certain point I’m trying to prove or persuade you to see anything a type of direction. But observe the non verbal cues of men at an event the next time you are at a function of this sort. You will probably see much of the same. We see so many comedians use these gender roles as material and there is a lot of truth behind it.
